PTAQ July Workshop: Getting Started with AI in Senior Psychology Research

Our next PTAQ  workshop will be held on Wednesday 22 July from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm, delivered online via Zoom.

Following a highly engaging session at our 2025 PTAQ Conference, we are delighted to welcome Abi Blessing back for an encore presentation, alongside Edward Howell, for a practical and supportive workshop focused on introducing AI in senior psychology classrooms.

This workshop is specifically designed for teachers who are new to using AI in research, providing an accessible introduction to how these tools can support both teaching practice and student outcomes in internal assessments.

Session 1 (3:30 pm – 4:15 pm)

Presenter: Abi Blessing

Join Abigail for a practical demonstration of how AI can support students and teachers throughout the IA3 Research Investigation process. Drawing on her experience as a Psychology specialist and classroom practitioner, Abigail will showcase how tools such as Gemini Deep Research and NotebookLM can be used to generate and refine research questions, conduct literature reviews, organise information and support data analysis. This session will explore strategies for integrating AI ethically and inclusively while maintaining academic integrity and developing students’ research capabilities. Participants will see how these tools can help reduce common challenges associated with the Research Investigation, improve the quality and depth of student inquiry, and support more efficient and insightful research practices from planning through to analysis.

.

Session 2 (4:15 pm – 5:00 pm)

Presenter: Eddie Howell

Join Eddie for a practical demonstration of how AI can support teachers in delivering clear, consistent, and effective feedback for IA2 and IA3. Drawing on his experience as Head of Science and his involvement in QCAA processes, Edward will introduce a Copilotbased Draft Bot designed to streamline the feedback process for student experiments and research investigations. This session will explore how the tool transforms typed or spoken teacher feedback into a structured format aligned with official assessment criteria, including detailed tables, ratings, and focused summaries. Participants will see how this approach can help students better understand their strengths, identify areas for improvement, and refine their work to achieve strong academic outcomes, while also supporting consistency in feedback across classes and subjects.
